AI receptionist for tree surgeons: quoting while you're up a tree

Agentric Team ·

Tree surgery might be the trade where missed calls are most structural: the work happens up trees, in noise, with both hands on machinery. There is no "quick, grab the phone" — which is why tree surgeons lose jobs to voicemail every working day.

The tree-work enquiry shape

  • Storm surges. A windy weekend generates a week's worth of "half my tree's in the garden" calls at once. Callers ring several firms; whoever answers the job first usually gets it — and AI answering doesn't get overwhelmed by volume.
  • The quote process. Tree work is rarely a fixed price — it's "can you come and look?" The assistant's job isn't pricing; it's booking the site visit and capturing the essentials: tree type if known, the work wanted, access constraints, photos prompted later.
  • Seasonal rhythms. Summer hedges, autumn deadwood, winter storm damage, nesting-season restrictions questions. The FAQ load is manageable and endlessly repeating.

What good triage looks like for tree surgeons

  • Danger escalation: "branch hanging over the pavement", "tree leaning toward the house" → flagged urgent, your mobile rung, callers advised on immediate safety (keep clear).
  • Routine work → visit booking: hedge trims, reductions, removals → survey appointment in the diary.
  • The council/TPO questions: "is my tree protected?" — the assistant gives the honest "we'll check that at the survey" plus captures the address for your TPO lookup.

Knowledge base priorities

  • Service list with honest "from £" indications where you can give them.
  • What you won't do (TPO work without consent, work near power lines if not qualified).
  • Insurance + qualifications — the #1 caller trust questions in this trade.
  • Access requirements — "we'll need to get a chipper within X metres."
  • Escalation rules for genuinely dangerous trees.

The economics

Tree work is high-ticket: £300 hedge to £2,000+ removal. A single recovered quote visit a week covers the subscription many times over — and storm-weekend coverage alone (when literally nobody's hands are free) justifies it outright.

The version where the phone gets answered is also the version where the quote diary stays full — and in tree work, the quote diary is the business.
